How to do a Model of a Bean Plant

How to do a Model of a Bean Plant

In San Gabriel Highschool we did a model of a bean plant, made up only of newspapers, foam balls, paint and wire, also wood.

Materials:
  • Green paint
  • Brown Painting
  • 3m of wire
  • 15cm plus 15cm triplex wooden board
  • 5 newspapers
  • 15 medium foam balls
  • Silicon
  • Green Fomix
  • Tape
  • Crepe paper color green
Proceedment:

1.- Take the wire and join 4 pieces of 65cm long with the tape, and then with the last 15cm of the piece, open it and join them with two circles, depending on the diameter of the opening. One at the half of the opening and at the end.
2.- With 4 pieces of wire of different sizes (20 or 25cm), bend them a little, like branches. Then, with the tape, connect them to the main stem. With the fomix, make some leaves.
3.- With the papers of the newspaper make 12 tubes of 25cm each. Join them in groups of four with the silicone and a separate sheet of newspaper. Then, cut one side of the mixture. You'll have the main base of the bean.
4.- Paint the bean with the color green.
5.- Cover the foam balls with the crepe paper and paste it in the bean. 5 balls each bean.
6.- Paste the leaves and the beans in the stem, and it's ready.

What did We do in The Multidisciplinary Project

San Gabriel Highschool

In San Gabriel Highschool we did many things for the Multidisciplinary Project, including this blog.

Math:
In this subject we did a research about the stadistics of the Censo Agropecuario of 2000. Then we did graphics of the 10 statistics tables.

Language and Communication:
We had to choose about 2 topics to do the project. With my group we chose Planting a Bean and see what happen with it. Then, we had to write an inform of 5 paragraphs.

Social Studies:
The project consisted on investigating about ancient civilization, do a research and make a model of the topic. With my group we chose the Egyptian Civilization because we found a lot of information of it. Then, individually we had to plant a bean and tak photos everyday and write a reflection.

Natural Science:
The objective of this Multidiciplinary Project was making a research of the types of Vegetables, and in the second part we wrote an inform about the practice realized in the Highschool, that was building a raised-bed.

Computer Science:
In the Multidisciplinary Project of Computer Science, our job was making 10 documents of a blog in groups of 3 people about the Raised-Bed Gardening.

Art:
We make a model of a fruit or a vegetable, and my group chose the Bean. It was very easy to do, but also is a very large project, because it took almost a month

Physic Education:
The job for this part of the Multidisciplinary project was to investigate The Nutrition in the Sports, so it was a very difficult to do.

Steps to do a Raised-Bed

Steps to do a Raised-Bed

The Raised-Bed is very easy to build if you have a garden, and these are the instructions:

Materials:

  • Hoe
  • Shovel
  • Rake
  • Medium Land (5 or 6 square meters)
  • Seeds
  • Water
  • Compost
  • Wool
  • Stakes (estacas)
  • Ice sticks

Proceedment:

  • Delimit a terrain of 3m plus 1m with th wool and the stakes.
  • Clean manually the delimited area, extracting stones, big rocks, sticks and every kind of garbage that can obstruct the construction of the Bed.
  • With the hoe extract the biggest stones, deeply rooted plants and the land gets flat.
  • You have to flat with the rake, making longitudinal movements, as if you stroke the soil.
  • Take the humus and mix it with the natural soil, making a fertile mixture.
  • Flat agin with the rake.
  • Make grooves in the soil with your fingers, more or less 1cm deep, and put the seeds, also thinking about the final size of the plant.
  • Cover the seeds with soil, without compacting.
  • Irrigate with water.
The Final Product will be kind of this.

The Raised-Bed Gardening (Siembra Organica)

What is Raised-Bed Gardening?

The raised-bed gardening or ecological agriculture is the natural gardening of plants in a culture without using any type of pesticides or other types of chemical elements, already be fruits, vegetables, vegetables, leguminous, cereals, etc. This type of cultures helps to the environment since he respects the land and the plants. A very common method of culture is named bench-covers (bancales) established by Rudolf Steiner in 1924. This method consists in that to there be done divisions of the area of 1m. Of width and of any length. This way the land is not trodden, and does not get damaged.

Care of the Plants

The base of the raised-bed gardening is the correct caring that you have to have with the plants that you cultivate,  most commonly used vegetables, and give to them what they need. Is very important to keep the water and sun level in high quantities, because its necesessary for the plants to have it. The vegetables like lettuce need a lot of nutrients and water to grow correctly, and in the harvest time they will be weak and small.

Because is raised-bed gardening, we don't have to use any type of pesticides or chemical nutrients for growing the plants, and here are some recomendations:
  • You don't have to plant only one type of plants, because that is what the insects like, so you have to do what is called plant rotation, that consists in that you have to change the different type of vegetables every time you harvest in a raised-bed, for example: if in a bed you harvest grains, in the next planting you have to put flower-type vegetables.
  • You have to put some natural chemicals for using as pesticides, for example the "piretrinas" (name in spanish) that are obtained from the crisantemo flower. This are air bacteries that produce a toxic pesticide.
  • The garlic plant is biodegradable, and can be used as a pesticide because the insects hate it's essence.

Plant Fertilization

The fertilization of the plant is one of the most important things while you are cultivating any kind of plants, including the chemical planting. There are principally two ways to fertilize the garden:
  • A bunch of rotten plants and animal's excrement mixed in only one compost help the plants to take the nutriets better.
  • Planting some other death plants, because when the plants grow, it will be food for it
The Raised-Bed Gardening is very interesting, and I recomend for everybody to practice it.
